REVIEW ➮➬➫➭ PACIFICA ( Modular People )STARRING ➮➬➫➭ The PresetsOk it’s a bit difficult to write an objective review of one of my favorite band ever. This is a review by a fan that tries to convince you that The Presets, at their third album, are one of the most relevant band in the electronic music in the world today. A fundamental upgrade has been made from the previous records “Beams”, the indie dance phase, and “Apocalypso”, the mainstream breakthrough both in Australia and England: “Pacifica” is a definitive collection of the electronic music that touched the band touring all over the world in the past 3 years. There’s a variety of styles and sonorities that can be identified each one in a city scene, especially euro cities scene, merged togheter with the typical presets ingredients: the emotional voice of Julian Hamilton, and the distorted unexpected techno rave riffs. The opening track, “Youth in trouble” is a minimal techno anxious track that seems to fit perfect in an underground club of Berlin, the first single “Ghost”, is a extraordinary downtempo track and “Promises” is one of the best song on the album and of the 2012, when synthpop can still astonish you and outclass the French. Other highlights of the album is the song “Fall”, ravy and romantic at the same time, and when a song makes you dance and fell in love at the same time is one of greatest thing that could happen.Another mention also for the 6 minutes madness of “A.O”. See you in the year-end list “Pacifica”. Give pleasure to your ears.9.0 ☺ / 10 ☺

REVIEW ➮➫➬➭ LIGHT ASYLUMSTARRING ➮➫➬➭ LIGHT ASYLUMThe NY duo from Brooklyn, Bruno Coviello and Shannon Funchness, finally have released the long awaited debut album on Mexican Summer after the self-released debut ep In Tension wich was a true cult in the undergorund club music. 10 tracks of dark synthpop and industrial characterised by the incredible voice of Shannon that goes from guttural intonations and militaristic drills (“Pope will roll”, “Ipc”) to the melancholic leading melodies and operatic tenor (check “Shallow tears” wow). The dualism Bruno/Shannon often reminds the dualism Clarke/Moyet of YAZOO for the ability to combine cold synthetic beats with over warm voices to the perfect balance. Of course you can find modern elements with the combination of dark witchy distorted synth and 8 bit reverbed melodies that make the record absolutely hype. “A Certain Person”, the closing track, is the icing on the cake, the perfect pop song by the Grace Jones of the new millenium8☺ / 10☺
