{{{ R3CORD OF THE MONTH }}}
REVIEW ➮➫➬➭ BILLBOARD EP
STARRING ➮➫➬➭ S-Type
One of the passions of seapunkgang and their readers his that union between instrumental hip-hop beats with glossy synths that someone called “aqua-crunk”, a tag tha
t embrace the most phenomenal producers of our time :Rustie - LUNICE - Hudson Mohawke - Sinjin Hawke.
S-stype is the new star of this sky, he’s from scotland like his music family , the Lucky me records along withMachinedrum, Hudmo, Mike Slott and more.
“Billboard”, the opening track, hyped by pitchfork and featured on rustie’s bbc essential mix, is a massive bass progressive track, a sick tune that will be played in repeat by djs and it remind me of FUSE by hudmo.
“Flyp City” continues the mpc hip hop jam with big saw leads, “Sensi star” has no drums and there’s time for some experimental funk/rnb piano riffs and synths arpeggios. Funk basslines with talkbox joy and intricate harmoncs characterise “Walrus”, “Whola lotta” breaks down with his gangsta flow ( ‘s in da club ‘s s s in da club), and the closing track “You Da best” is in my opinion the smartest episode of the record with a disco funk sample, horns and 8 bit all togheter. Classy.
S-type adopted new intresting solutions made a collection of beatiful solid producted songs; a great ep that you’ll enjoy.
